Tawakkol Karman Criticizes the Chinese and Russian Vetoes Against the Resolution to Sanction Assad’s Regime
Tawakkol Karman, a leading figure in the youth-led revolution and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, criticized the Chinese and Russian vetoes blocking an international resolution to sanction Bashar al-Assad’s regime for committing crimes and massacres against his people.
Karman wrote on her Facebook page that the veto would lead Bashar and his regime to a fate similar to that of Muammar Gaddafi and his regime, or more accurately, a fate akin to that of the Serbian regime, which was supported by Russia, similar to the support Assad receives from Russia and China.
Karman expressed her deep and unwavering belief that, just as Bosnia and its people, and Kosovo and its people triumphed over regimes of oppression and tyranny despite Russian vetoes and unchecked military and political support, the Syrian people will triumph, overthrow Bashar al-Assad’s regime, and hold him accountable, serving as a lesson for future generations. "Will anyone take heed?" she asked.
