Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has expressed her condolences following the passing of Yemeni writer and journalist Hassan Abdulwarith, who died today at the age of 61.
In a heartfelt post on her official Facebook page, Karman wrote, “The great writer and journalist Hassan Abdulwarith has passed away. I extend my condolences to our people, his colleagues, and his family during this profound loss. I also mourn for myself in this painful tragedy. May his soul rest in peace, and we are saddened by his departure.”
Born in 1963 in Al-Qawlah, Aden, Abdulwarith began his writing journey at the "14 October" newspaper while still in high school. After earning his university degree, he continued his career at the same publication.
His literary talent emerged in 1977 when his poems were first published in the Aden magazine "Al-Funoon." He later contributed to notable newspapers such as "October" and "Al-Thawri," where he also served as an editor for the Yemeni Socialist Party's publication in Sana'a.
In 2001, he took on the role of editor-in-chief at "Al-Wahda," a newspaper associated with the Revolution Foundation for Press in the Yemeni capital. Abdulwarith was widely respected for his literary works and poetry collections, leaving a significant legacy in Yemeni literature and journalism.
