Nobel laureate backs Sudan's complaint against UAE, warns of repercussions for the 'glass-made state'
Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights advocate Tawakkol Karman has praised Sudan's decision to bring a complaint against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the UN Security Council.
In a statement on her official Facebook page, Karman criticized the UAE's wealth and lack of wisdom, asserting that the "glass-made" state has caused numerous disasters and tragedies in our region, with Sudan being the hardest hit. She cautioned that the UAE's actions will eventually come back to harm itself twice as much.
Karman's statement was prompted by Sudan's complaint, which accuses the UAE of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group responsible for human rights violations in Sudan. The complaint argues that the UAE's backing implicates it in the crimes committed by the RSF.
The UN Security Council convened a session on Monday to address the complaint. Sudan's representative, Al-Harith Idris, stated that the UAE's actions breach international law and called for the Council to hold the UAE accountable. The UAE has not yet responded to Sudan's complaint.
