Nobel Peace Prize laureate and prominent activist, Tawakkol Karman, has strongly condemned the recent American-British attacks on multiple sites in Yemen.
She emphasized her staunch opposition to any external bombings that target Yemeni individuals or groups, deeming them as acts of aggression against the country and a violation of its sovereignty.
Expressing her views on her official Facebook page, Karman made it clear that her firm position against external bombings should not be misconstrued as a retreat or concession regarding her stance on the Houthi group and their coup. She referred to the Houthi group as a fascist dynasty that forcibly seized power in Yemen, overthrowing the legitimate government and oppressing the Yemeni people. Karman reiterated her call for Yemenis to overthrow the Houthi rule and restore the Yemeni state through all available means, emphasizing that this is an urgent national duty.
Karman further stated that the American-British attacks, which were purportedly carried out in response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea, would actually strengthen the Houthi group rather than weaken it. She pointed out that the Houthi group justified their attacks by claiming they were pressuring to end the war in Gaza and lift the blockade on it, which garnered them significant sympathy.
Highlighting the potential consequences of the American-British attacks, Karman argued that such actions would only generate more sympathy and support for the Houthi group. Instead, she urged the United States and the United Kingdom to cease the war in Gaza and lift the blockade, as these measures would be more effective and preferable in achieving the desired outcomes.
Karman's condemnation of the American-British attacks underscores her commitment to peace and her belief that military interventions and bombings only exacerbate conflicts and deepen the suffering of the Yemeni people. She advocates for a more diplomatic and humanitarian approach that prioritizes the well-being and rights of all individuals involved.
