Nobel laureate Tawakkol Karman to join United Nations Global Summit on women's empowerment
Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Tawakkol Karman, will join the "Invest-In-Women" Global Summit organized by the United Nations Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF).
The summit, held at the UN Headquarters, aims to mobilize $300 million USD by 2025 to support women peacebuilders and humanitarians.
Scheduled to take place at the UN Headquarters in New York on October 25 and 26, 2023, the Summit will gather governments, civil society leaders, UN organizations, celebrities, philanthropists, and private sector representatives.
Known as the "Mother of the Revolution" in Yemen, Tawakkol Karman will discuss her own experiences fighting for equal citizenship and human rights. Three main topics will be covered at the summit: how women can prevent conflict, how women can strategically solve humanitarian crises to promote lasting peace and development, and how women at the frontline are impacted by creative funding techniques.
The "Invest-In-Women" Global Summit holds great promise in advancing gender equality, amplifying women's voices, and supporting their vital roles in building peaceful societies. With Karman's participation, the summit aims to raise awareness and generate support for empowering women in peace and security efforts worldwide.
