Tawakkol Karman condemns UN representative's assassination in Yemen and calls for transparent investigation
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, has denounced the recent terrorist attack in Taiz Governorate that claimed the life of Moayad Hamidi, the United Nations World Food Program's representative.
In response to the attack, Karman has taken to her official Facebook page to call for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the matter. In her statement, Karman emphasized the importance of identifying both the perpetrator and the individuals or groups responsible for the attack, and urged authorities to bring them to justice.
Karman stressed the critical need for uncovering the truth behind the attack and exposing the reality of terrorism that is being promoted through covert and illegitimate means to achieve political and security objectives. Her statement highlights the importance of shedding light on the underlying motives of such violent acts and bringing those responsible to account.
She drew a link between the assassination and the long-standing policy of starvation in Taiz, which has been in place since the beginning of the war. Her statement suggests that the attack is part of a broader pattern of violence and human rights abuses in the region, and highlights the urgent need for action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
She conveyed her sincere condolences to the family of Moayad Hamidi, as well as to the Jordanian people, the World Food Program, and all those who had the privilege of working with him. Her statement recognizes the profound loss of a dedicated humanitarian worker and emphasizes the need to support and protect aid workers who are risking their lives to provide critical assistance in conflict zones.
