Upon the occasion of his 82nd birthday, Tawakkol Karman, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist, congratulated Rashid Ghannouchi, Speaker of the legitimate Tunisian Parliament who is currently detained following the Tunisian coup.
In her message, Karman expressed her admiration for Ghannouchi's contribution to the fight for freedom and democracy in Tunisia, despite being the largest political prisoner in the region for the last two months.
She praised his solid determination in combating terrorism and tyranny through thought and pen, even in prisons and exiles.
Karman's message also conveyed her hope for a brighter future for Tunisia and the Arab world, where freedom, democracy, and peace are enjoyed by all.
She addressed Ghannouchi directly, wishing him a happy new year and praying for his health and wellness.
