Yemeni teenager, Manar Sultan, has been honored by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, for winning first place in an international competition held in Jordan.
In the seventeenth session of the International Competition for the Holy Qur'an, held from March 3 to March 9, 60 competitors from 41 Arab and Islamic nations competed in memorizing and reciting the Qur'an. Taiz Governorate native Manar Sultan won first place.
Tawakkol Karman, who announced the honoring on her official Facebook page, congratulated Manar for her outstanding achievement and stated that she was proud of her. Mrs. Karman also expressed her pleasure in awarding Manar with an amount of $5,000 on behalf of the Tawakkol Karman Foundation.
Manar Sultan's success has brought joy to the people of Yemen, who are struggling to cope with the ongoing civil war and its repercussions. Her achievement has brought hope to the youth of Yemenis and is seen as a reminder of the importance of education, perseverance, and faith.
