Mrs. Karman mourns death of Yemen’s paratrooper ex-commander
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has mourned the death of the former politician and military leader, Abdullah Abdel-Alem, who breathed his last at the age of 79 on Friday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
“My sincere condolences and sympathy to the family, supporters and lovers of the leader Abdullah Abdel-Alem, the companion of Yemen’s martyred ex-President Ibrahim Al-Hamdi and the former commander of the Parachute Forces, who passed away yesterday in Cairo. May God have mercy on him, and great condolences to all”, Tawakkol Karman said in a condolence statement on her official Facebook page.
It should be noted that after the assassination of President Ibrahim al-Hamdi in late 1970s, Abdullah Abdel-Alem left Yemen to live as a political refugee in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
During his stay for more than four decades in exile, he never engaged in any political or media activity against the Yemeni regime, though he was an opponent.
