The Iranian-backed Houthi militia has imposed a ban on women’s work in commercial stores in the Sana’a capital under its control, and on the use of family planning methods.
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has strongly condemned the Houthi militia, recently designated as a terrorist group by the United States, for the ban.
In a statement on Facebook, Tawakkol Karman affirmed that there is an intense campaign by the Houthis to prevent women in Sana'a and other areas under their control, from working or using birth control methods, on the pretext that all of this impedes “the achievement of victory.”
Mrs. Karman indicated that this group’s approach makes it more dangerous than even terrorist groups.
