Tawakkol Karman at NATO Youth Summit: Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iran kill Yemen’s dream for democracy
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has strongly criticized Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran, saying that they are killing the Yemenis’ dream for a new, democratic and stable state.
In a speech at the digital NATO Youth Summit organized by NATO and the Munich Security Conference, Tawakkol Karman said: Saudi Arabia and Iran are leading counter-revolutions, raging wars, and supporting militias and extremist groups in countries that have experienced popular uprisings for democracy.
“In my country, Yemen, there is a war that has been going on for about six years. This war has been led by regional parties, namely Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran in their counterrevolution efforts to kill people’s dream of creating a new democratic, stable, United Yemen,” Karman added
She explained that this war has led Yemen to be the worst humanitarian crisis in the world according to the UN.
The summit was attended by high-profile figures, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the prime ministers of Britain, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands.
