Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has congratulated Yemeni people on the anniversary of the October Revolution of 1963 against the British occupation.
Today, October 14, 2016, marks the 53rd anniversary of the October Revolution in what was formerly known as South Yemen.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page, Karman stated, "On a day like this before 53 years, our South Yemen’s heroes sparked the glorious 14th October Revolution against the British occupation."
“Over 138 years of struggle, Yemenis tirelessly resisted and refused to submit to the occupation by all legitimate means available. The revolution of October 14 only represented the culmination of this long journey of struggles and sacrifices,” she added.
She concluded her statement by pointing out to what has been taking place across the country, describing it as a fight for the sake of a state of law and institutions, which guarantees freedom and dignity of Yemen’s people.
