Nobel Peace Prize Winner and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has warned against invoking US intervention in Yemen due to the repeated targeting of U.S. Navy ships in the territorial waters of Yemen.
Commenting on this issue on social media, Karman explained, “Houthis, having repeatedly targeted American warships in the Red Sea, provided further evidence that they are directly run by Iran, which implies that Russia has already decided to intervene in Yemen”.
She added, "I think it's not just a farce to attract the US presence to Yemen, as some say."
According to the US Department of Defense’s statement on last Thursday, the U.S. military responded by fired cruise missile strikes destroying three coastal radar sites in Yemeni areas controlled by Iran-backed Houthi militia after failed missile attacks this week on a U.S. Navy destroyer.
The targeting of US destroyer came just after days when Houthi militias targeted a civilian vessel (SWIFT), owned by an Emirates maritime company during one of its routine trips to and from the city of Aden to transfer aid, in addition to evacuating injured civilians who had to complete their treatment outside Yemen.
According to reports from Fox News and USNI, the U.S. Navy has responded to the Yemeni missile strike on a UAE-operated high-speed transport ship by dispatching three warships to the region.
The guided missile destroyers USS Mason and Nitze will be accompanied by the afloat forward staging vessel USS Ponce.
Mason and Nitze carry Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles as well as the Harpoon anti-ship missile. Ponce serves as a mobile base for special operations forces.
