Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman expresses condolences for the death of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, 83, who ruled for more than 20 years, was the grandfather of the current leader of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
According Aljazeera’s website, Qatar will observe three days of mourning.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the father of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the death of Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani,” Karman wrote on social media.
She also expressed her sorrow to the Qatari people and all loved ones, asking Allah to have mercy on him.
The Qatari Royal Court announced on Sunday the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani at the age of 83.
It is worth mentioning that Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani ruled Qatar from 1972 until his son Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani took over in 1995.
