Yemen’s human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkol Karman today met India’s minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. V K Singh, in the Indian capital New Delhi.
Accompanied by Karman’s assistants Mr. Mizar Alguneid, Mr. Mohammed Alnehmi and Mrs. Thuraya Al Shaibani, Nobel Laureate discussed with the minister several issues including the issue of the Yemeni wounded at India’s hospitals and students studying at various educational institutions of the country.
During the meeting taken place at the headquarters of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both parties touched on India's role in supporting the Yemeni legitimate government's efforts at this critical stage in history of Yemen.
The Yemeni human rights activist arrived in India yesterday to participate in a summit of Nobel laureates and global leaders, on December 10-11 in support of a campaign for child rights in India’s capital of New Delhi.
Under the title “100 Million for 100 Million”, the summit’s campaign is aimed at mobilizing 100 million youths and children to work for 100 million underprivileged children worldwide.
Of the most prominent Nobel laureates who will also attend the summit are Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, former Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, Leymah Gbowee (Liberia).
The event organized by the Kailash Satyarthi Foundation will also host VIPs such as Princess Charlene of Monaco, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan, Princess Laurentien of The Netherlands, former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, former Togo Prime Minister Gilbert Houngbo, The Earth Institute Director Jeffrey Sachs as well as Angel Gurria, Secretary-General, OECD.
An open meeting will be organized on December 11 in the presence of Nobel Laureates, child and youth leaders, government leaders, businessmen and civil society organizations.
