Peace- and women’s rights activist Tawakkol Karman today said the road to a sustainable peace and national reconciliation in Yemen passes through several steps topped by disbanding the militia, bringing its leaders and the deposed president Ali Saleh on trial.
Any roadmap should be preceded by putting an end to the fascist Houthi militia, bringing a prosecution against its leaders, granting an amnesty for its members on condition of non-repetition and surrender any weapons in their possession, and bringing the ousted Ali Saleh on trial as well as recovering public funds looted by him and his family, Karman wrote on social media.
She added with emphasis, “Doing so is the only way to achieve peace, and is the utmost tolerance and forgiveness if compared to appalling crimes and massacres they have committed crimes against the people and the country.”
Mrs. Karman concluded by saying, “Personally, I will defend any roadmap or proposals containing these points and vice versa.”
