The human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Tawakkol Karman today morning mourned the writer Ahmad Qasem Dammaj, former president of the Yemeni Union of Writers and one of the most prominent struggler in September Revolution against the rule of the Imamate in 1962.
"I’m mourning the death of one of September’s heroes. Today, the writer and struggler Ahmed Qasem Dammaj, who was a prosecution witness against the misery of Imamate and its tyranny, passed away,” Karman said in a statement shared on social media.
She added, "Dammaj spent his life being honest and honorable, covering himself in glory and adhering to dignity and the Republic honour. He had never betrayed or dishonored his commitments.”
Peace- and women’s rights activist offered condolences to the family of Dammaj and to Yemeni people and the loved ones on this great loss, pleading Almighty Allah to bestow His mercy on his soul and forgive him.
It is worth mentioning that the deceased writer, born 1939, who passed away at midnight Monday after a long struggle with the disease, was the first Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers after the 1962 revolution.
He was in charge of the General Union of Yemeni Writers for several terms, and participated in many conferences, Arab poetry festivals. His poetry was published in some Arab periodicals.
