Peace and women’s rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman paid tribute to women everywhere on International Women's Day Wednesday morning, saying that “the future will be female” and that “there can be no future without women.”
“Free women are those who free nations and create great revolutions, and are those who bring about change, lead communities in unfavorable conditions and serve as bulwark for the family against disasters and calamities,” Mrs. Karman tweeted.
"On International Women’s Day, I pay tribute to the great Yemeni woman as she is struggling against the fascist coup and for retaking the betrayed Yemeni state,” she added in the tweet.
She noted that once the situation returns to normal, men return to lead making women be in the rear seats, stressing the need to change “this unjust equation”.
The Noble laureate indicated, “Behind every great revolution are brave women,” pointing out "in every liberation process and social change, there were courageous women."
On International Women’s Day, I call for equal right and opportunities for women once and for all,” Karman added in post on Facebook.
The United Nations observance on 8 March calls upon all member nations – including Iran – to “Step It Up for Gender Equality towards a Planet 50-50 by 2030” by ensuring that the world of work works for all women.
