The Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has said that the abduction of the leader in the opposition Islah party, Mohammad Qahtan, and Yemen by the Houthi militia forces loyal to ousted President Ali Saleh has become one issue,
pointed out that this is a great honor to a person who has never given up his dignity or tolerance
Houthi's militia and forces of ousted President Ali Saleh had kidnapped Islah’s prominent leader on April 4, 2015 after days of house arrest.
“It has been two years of enforced disappearance of the prominent civilian political figure, Mohammed Qahtan, and of preventing his relatives from visiting him. Only criminal gangs commit such crime,” wrote Tawakkol Karman on social media
She added, “Qahtan has been known for his courageous anti-tyranny and -corruption positions and for integrity that befits our people’s greatness and pride. For the Houthi militia and ousted president, these two points are sufficient to capture and abuse him.”
Yemenis, and also the world, know that Qahtan is a strong politician and struggler, and that he is a perfect man of dialogue and tolerance just as we all know that his captors are nothing but a group of murderers who are enemies of civilization and dialogue values, added Mrs. Tawakkol Karman.
She concluded by saying that Yemen will recover from its ordeal, and Qahtan will come out of his detention.
Amnesty International had issued an urgent statement on January 20, “Yemeni political activist Muhammad Qahtan is in the custody of the Houthi armed group in Yemen. His whereabouts are unknown and he is at risk of torture and other ill-treatment. There are concerns that his health may be deteriorating.”
