Tawakkol Karman: To combat terrorism, we must first get rid of despotism, spread justice and support development
The human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has stressed the need to spread justice, combat dictatorship and corruption and support development in order to get rid of terrorism, noting that the path to peace counts on the struggle for justice, equality, freedom and democracy.
This came at a joint press conference held today with four other Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Rigoberta Menchú Tum from Guatemala, Jody Williams from USA, Shirin Ebadi from Iran, Mairead Maguire from Northern Ireland, in Mönchengladbach on the sidelines of Nobel Women’s Initiative conference titled "Global Feminist Resistance: Evolution and Revolution, Adapting to Survive Thrive.
"We need to spread justice, stop tyranny, fight corruption and support development in all its dimensions, if we really want a real fight against terrorism," wrote Tawakkol Kerman on her Facebook page.
Mrs. Karman added that terrorism and tyranny are two sides of one coin, which feed each other.
She said that the phrase “Islamic terrorism” repeated from time to time and preventing Muslims from entering America and other countries serve only the terrorists.
