What happens to the Syrian people will be remembered by the world as a major crime committed with the complicity of the international community, said the human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman,
stressing that the Assad regime would pay a heavy price for its criminal acts against the Syrian people.
This came in a speech delivered today at the conference "The way Starts Here… The Will To Live For Building The Syrian Society” taken place in Istanbul during the period 22-23 May.
The conference organized by Lebanon-based Basamat Foundation for Development was aimed to discuss mechanisms of recovery and advancement of the Syrian society at home and neighboring countries.
In the presence of Turkish deputy prime minister Omer Faruk Korkmaz, about 400 people from 12 countries of the world participated in this major event.
Mrs. Karman added that today’s solutions on Syria are unfair because they propose only superficial reforms and illusory elections, and allow Bashar al-Assad to stay in power, stressing that any proposals allowing Bashar al-Assad to continue in office are incompatible with humanity, justice and the future.
Karman pointed out that division and grievances in Syria will continue as long as Bashar al-Assad continues in power, and that this should not be accepted.
Finally, she confirmed that what the Assad regime "will pay a heavy price," saying that "tyrants fall faster than they expect."
