The human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has expressed her deepest condolences to the British people over the deadly terror attack at a concert in Manchester that has left dozens dead and wounded.
“I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the British people who are going through difficult moments as a result of the terrorist attack at a concert in Manchester where scores of innocent people have been killed and wounded”, said Mrs. Karman in a statement on social media.
She added she is sure that “the relatives and families of victims at these critical moments are thinking that Britain will continue on the path of freedom, tolerance, coexistence and justice.”
In this context, she stressed the need to act decisively and fairly, and that the fight against terrorism is everyone's responsibility.
The terror suicide occurred at the Manchester Arena at 10.35 p.m. local time on Monday shortly after a concert of US pop singer Ariana Grande. An explosive device went off outside the concert hall.
According to the latest data, 22 people, including children, were killed and 59 others were wounded.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group claimed responsibility through its social media channels for the attack, saying "one of the caliphate's soldiers placed bombs among the crowds".
The UK police identified 22-year-old Salman Abedi as the person who carried out Monday's deadly suicide bombing in Manchester.
