The unity of Yemen is inalienable and non-derogable, and there is no such thing as a single voice representing southern Yemen, said the human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman. 

This comes in response to British ambassador to Yemen, Simon Shercliff, who made remarks about Yemen after meeting with Aidarous al-Zubaidi, Aden’s pro-secession governor who was fired by President Hadi a few weeks ago. 

“UK supports a strong and unified Southern voice, which should pursue aims through political debate and reconciliation, not violence, wrote the British ambassador on his Twitter account.  

According to the ambassador’s tweet, al-Zubaidi talked about that the southern transitional council, which he established after his dismissal as a governor of Aden, and called the British official to see it as “the main voice for the South” (Southern Yemen). 

Mrs. Karman criticized the ambassador's remarks, stressing that the legitimate authority represented by the internationally-recognized president Hadi is the only voice representing the whole Yemen. 

She explained that the Yemen-related UN resolutions, “whose drafts were written by the British pen, reaffirmed the UN’s strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen.”
