Tawakkol Karman offers condolences on death of civilians killed by Saudi-led coalition attack in Taiz
Nobel Peace laureate Tawakkol Karman has sent condolences on the death of civilians in Yemen’s most populated province of Taiz.
At least 20 civilians, including women and children from the same family, have been killed in an air strike by the Saudi-led coalition in southwest Yemen.
Tuesday's attack targeted an area west of the city of Taiz, where a number of displaced families was fleeing battles between government forces on one side and the Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted president Saleh on the other side.
Eyewitnesses stressed that a number of families was hit on Tuesday while escaping from battles between the parties to the conflict near the city of Taiz.
On her Facebook page, Tawakkol Karman reiterated total rejection and condemnation of air strikes targeting civilians and civilian communities, calling for an independent investigation to ensure accountability and non-repetition.
She also renewed the call for the need to abide by humanitarian law and spare civilians the scourge of the current conflict in Yemen.
