Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has reiterated that President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi has been under house arrest in Riyadh.

"The president's statement to almost everyone who visits him that he is banned from going back to Aden means that he has been under house arrest," wrote Karman on social media.

She added the president is under house arrest even if he is forced to say otherwise in a statement made by himself or made and distributed on his behalf by the coalition.

“Such a saying can only be refuted if the president comes back to Aden”, she said.

Mrs. Karman pointed out that the president should return to the temporary capital in order to exercise his powers as president of the republic but not as merely a figurehead.
