Nobel Peace laureate Tawakkol Karman has expressed mistrust of US President Donald Trump and described his actions toward Muslims as racist.
"Unfortunately, I do not trust Trump because I do not trust racist people. I also do not believe he's a man of solutions as he is driven only by threatening tendency," Karman said in an interview with the Spanish daily El Pais.
Karman pointed out that Trump's decision to prevent the citizens of seven Muslim countries, including Yemen, from entering the United States, is only a form of discrimination against Muslims and violates not only US laws, but also all human rights agreements and international laws.
“It is a real shame that such thing is happening in the 21st century, and that the president of a country like the USA defines the Muslims as terrorists, while we are the main victim and enemy of the extremists”, she added.
Mrs. Karman explained that Muslims are the main victims of extremism and are fighting for their freedom, but “Trump, instead of giving his support to these people, went to prevent them and attack them."
She called on the international community to support citizens suffering under dictatorships in Syria, Libya, Egypt and Yemen.
The consequences of leaving people under dictatorial regimes will be very dangerous as this would mean the collapse of peace in the world, she continued.
Mrs. Tawakkol Karman stressed that peoples in America, Europe and the Arab Spring countries believe in peace and will continue to struggle for it, noting that the counterrevolution in Yemen “may have won a battle, but in the end the real victory will be of the people.”
