Both honorary doctorate in international law and honorary citizenship were awarded today to the Nobel Peace laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman in the Republic of Peru. 

The awards were presented at an honoring ceremony organized by the Peruvian Cesar Vallejo University on the occasion of its 26th anniversary in the presence of political and academic figures, activists and university students.  

Immediately upon arrival at the university campus, the music was played and some traditional Peruvian dances were performed amid the joy and applause of the audience. 

It should be noted that Karman had arrived in Peru on Friday at the invitation of the Peruvian university, which wanted to honor her as one of the leading figures in the peaceful struggle for human rights.

Tawakkol Karman is the fifth Nobel Prize to arrive in Peru for the twenty-sixth anniversary of the César Vallejo University, after Shirin Ebadi (2003 Nobel Peace Prize), Leymah Gbowee ( 2001 Nobel Peace Prize), Jody Williams (1997 Nobel Peace Prize) and Rigoberta Menchú ( 1992 Nobel Peace Prize).
