The Nobel Peace laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman today arrived in Germany to attend an international conference entitled “Peace and Conflict Studies: Perspectives from the Global South”. 

Organized by the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy and financially supported by the German Foundation for Peace Research and by the Thuringian State Chancellery, the conference will begin on Thursday at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the Erfurt University in the state of Thuringia. 

According to a statement posted on the website of  the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy, Mrs. Karman will be the keynote speaker at an event with the title “Women for Peace – Between Adaptation and Opposition”. 

The statement noted that Karman will provide insight into her political activities as well as speak about her role in the struggle for peaceful change and democratic reforms in Yemen

The organizer seeks through the event to link the situation of women in Yemen and the Middle East with the role of women among refugees and migrants in Thuringia. 

“The event is a wonderful opportunity to encourage the discussion about democratic reform processes on a global as well as local level,” says Prof. Dr. Solveig Richter, initiator of the event.
