In her speech at the FAO and EU Conference ...Karman: “The root of the crisis of hunger is the lack of justice and good governance”
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman said that the reason behind famine and food insecurity crises is the lack of justice, democracy and good governance.
In her speech at the conference entitled, "Food and Agriculture in Times of Crisis," organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the European Union (EU) in Brussels, Karman stressed that the collapse of the state throws millions of people out to face their fate, prevented from all forms of protection.
She said that offering a relief aid is not the best solution, but in case of the collapse of the states, wars and the spread of famine the relief aid represents an international humanitarian duty.
Karman said that those who tell millions of people in the world, who could not find anything to eat, that their problem is only the population increase, they blame them and tell them that their presence is their guilty in a world that does not have mercy, pointing out that this causes a psychological hurt and a tough luxury that results from the lack of spirit of humanitarian sympathy, in addition that it is neither logical nor true.
