Karman shocked by statement of Khashoggi’s family
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman said she was shocked by the statement made by the family of journalist Jamal Khashoggi that cleared the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman from the crime of killing Khashoggi,
asserting that the assassination of Khashoggi is a crime against humanity and that an international trial is required to achieve justice.
In a statement from Jamal Khashoggi’s family, the family said Salman and his Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, are sponsors of the Saudi people that they [Jamal’s family] are part of.
Karman added: “The entire world, with irrefutable evidence, accuses the Crown Prince of being responsible for the murder of Jamal Khashoghi, cutting him into pieces, and maiming the body in such an ugly way. The family issued their own judgment to acquit him and even claimed that he is a compassionate leader towards them and their father.
"The family claimed in the statement that there is a fair trial going on in Saudi Arabia, fair and transparent,” Karman said.
Karman said that the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi is a crime against humanity that has not a statute of limitations and it is not a criminal offense against the family of Khashoggi so that the family can give up or forgive.
Karman noted that the United Nations and all human rights organizations described the crime, according to the international treaties and conventions, as a crime against humanity.
Karman said: "We all know that the trial in Saudi Arabia is not fair and it is necessary for an international tribunal to achieve justice.”
