Karman: Essebsi is very different from his peers in the Arab world
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman said that the late Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi was very unique to his peers in the Arab world and that he lived a life that was full of political work from the era of independence until the revolution against the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
"With the funeral of Tunisian President Béji Caid Essebsi to his final resting place, the life of one of Tunisia's great men folds after a life that was full of political work from the era of independence until the revolution," said Karman on her official Facebook page. She said he was unique to many of his peers in the Arab world.
"Essebsi came to power through fair elections, so his death is a loss for the democracy camp in the region," Karman said.
"What I am sure of is that the Tunisian people knew the path of democracy and free elections and will not depart from it."
