The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has emphasized the Arab Spring revolutions did not erupt to stop at a certain point, citing the second wave of popular uprisings that have taken place in some Arab countries. 

In a speech marking the ninth anniversary of Yemen’s peaceful February 11 revolution, Tawakkol Karman said that the financiers of counter-revolutions believed that they, by sabotaging the Arab Spring revolutions and wreaking havoc, would be able to eliminate the idea of revolution against tyranny.

“The February Revolution sought to secure a peaceful political transition, which was already achieved, as evidenced by everyone inside and outside Yemen. This led to talking about the "Yemeni model to solve the issue of power struggle that had begun to escalate across the region,” said Mrs. Karman. 

She pointed out that the enemies of the February revolution at home and abroad did not like the idea of Yemen being a federal, democratic state, and disliked the idea of ending the scenario of governance being passed from the then-existing rulers to their sons, pointing to all-out war designed to take over Yemeni governorates, disrupt the political process, close the media and pursue journalists.

Finally, she added that those trying to held the February revolution responsible for all awful and terrible things happening to Yemen have no courage to admit the gravity of their folly they committed when showing unrelenting adherence to a man (referring to President Saleh) who was driven by the desire for revenge.
