Nobel Laureate Condemns Houthi Death Sentences Against 17 Yemenis
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and prominent human rights advocate Tawakkol Karman has issued a forceful condemnation of the death sentences handed down by the Houthi militia against 17 Yemeni citizens, calling the rulings a continuation of the militia’s entrenched pattern of political repression.
In a statement published on her official Facebook page, Karman said the Houthis are “deepening their catalogue of abuses” by weaponizing capital punishment to instill fear and silence dissent. She described the group as a fascist, terrorist militia that has spent years subjecting Yemenis to arbitrary prosecutions, coerced confessions, and trials devoid of due process.
“These crimes will not go unpunished,” Karman asserted, adding that Yemenis will ultimately “close the chapter on this dark era” and reclaim their capital, their state, and their freedom of choice.
She expressed confidence that accountability is inevitable, stating, “Night will give way to dawn, and truth will prevail.”
