Nobel laureate to join IYTT Youth Conference in South Africa
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, is set to participate in the upcoming 6th International Youth Conference & NOBEL SYMPOSIA NS 203 in Stellenbosch, South Africa,
scheduled to take place from August 25 to 29, 2024. The event, themed "African Youth Show the Way Towards Peace and Democracy," aims to empower young individuals in shaping a democratic and peaceful future.
During the conference, Karman will share her inspiring journey of opposing dictatorship and championing freedom, democracy, freedom of opinion and expression, and equal citizenship. She will also emphasize the pivotal role of youth in instigating transformative changes for a brighter future within their communities.
With a total of 24 participants aged between 18 and 28, carefully chosen from a competitive pool of 195 applicants, the conference will foster a platform for youth to engage with Nobel Laureates, scholars, and professionals. Together, they will collaborate to generate innovative ideas and strategies to revitalize democracy and promote peace.
Throughout the conference, the young participants will lead discussions, guided by four moderators, to develop proposals aimed at democratization, democracy renewal, and peacekeeping. These proposals will culminate in a comprehensive presentation and report, with the intention to inspire leaders across various sectors.
The outcomes of this collaborative effort are anticipated to not only contribute to academic research but also to be compiled in the IYTT Handbook for Innovative Democracy, serving as a guide for civil society, industry, and political leaders.
