Israel’s Nature Revealed Again: Journalist Mohammad Al-Munirawi and His Wife Killed in Gaza Strike
The killing of Palestinian journalist Mohammad Al-Munirawi and his wife in an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza has drawn sharp condemnation from Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC), which described the act as a heinous crime and a deliberate assault on press freedom.
The strike, carried out on the evening of Wednesday, October 29, 2025, targeted the couple’s tent shelter amid a wave of intensified bombardments across the Gaza Strip. WJWC stated that this attack is part of a systematic campaign by Israeli occupation forces to silence journalists and suppress documentation of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.
“This is not an isolated incident,” the organization declared. “It is a continuation of Israel’s genocidal policy against Palestinian civilians and a grave violation of international humanitarian law.”
Over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, Israeli forces launched widespread airstrikes in blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement. These attacks, carried out under unlawful pretexts, killed at least 104 civilians and wounded dozens more—including children, women, and journalists—while destroying homes and refugee shelters.
WJWC highlighted that Mohammad Al-Munirawi was one of Gaza’s most committed and courageous journalists, known for documenting the suffering of displaced families and the plight of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. His death marks a profound loss for the press and for the truth.
According to updated figures, 255 journalists and media professionals have been killed by Israeli forces since October 7, 2023, making this the deadliest period for the press in modern history. Among the victims was Saleh Al-Jafrawi, murdered by Israeli-affiliated groups just two days after the most recent ceasefire took effect.
WJWC emphasized that these attacks were carried out under direct orders from Israel’s political and military leadership, pointing to the premeditated intent of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government—whose leader remains wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC)—to resume genocidal operations and systematically violate ceasefire agreements.
Since the temporary truce announced on October 10, brokered at the suggestion of the U.S. administration, Israel has killed at least 211 Palestinians in renewed strikes. Rescue teams have recovered 482 bodies from beneath the rubble, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
The total death toll in Gaza now exceeds 68,643, with hundreds of victims still trapped under debris or stranded in open streets, unreachable due to ongoing bombardment, fuel shortages, and the collapse of Gaza’s health infrastructure.
WJWC warned that the targeting of journalists is part of a deliberate Israeli strategy to silence free voices and obscure the reality of the humanitarian disaster. The organization described these actions as media genocide—an assault on truth that parallels the broader genocide against Gaza’s civilian population.
In response, Women Journalists Without Chains called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations and demanded the following:
The formation of an independent international commission of inquiry under the auspices of the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to investigate the systematic targeting of journalists in Gaza.
Prosecution before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for genocide and war crimes committed by the Israeli government against civilians and media professionals.
Immediate international protection for journalists and media institutions operating in conflict zones, in accordance with Article 79 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.
The urgent lifting of the siege on Gaza to allow unrestricted access for humanitarian, medical, and rescue teams.
WJWC concluded by affirming that the continued targeting of journalists and civilians in Gaza constitutes not only a war crime but also an assault on the global conscience—one that demands an immediate, unified response to end impunity and restore justice.
