Nobel Laureate Denounces Houthi Crackdown After Arrest of Sana’a University Professor
Human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has denounced the Houthi militia for arresting Dr. Hamoud Al-Awdi, a prominent professor of sociology at Sana’a University, along with his companions Anwar Khaled Shaab and Abdulrahman al-Ulufi.
In a statement shared on her official Facebook page, Karman accused the Houthis of continuing their campaign of humiliation and repression against Yemenis.
“All solidarity with them, and all condemnation of this fascist group that has gone too far in humiliating Yemenis and violating their dignity,” she said. “The night will surely end.”
The arrests are part of a broader pattern of Houthi crackdowns on academics and civil society figures in areas under their control, drawing renewed condemnation from rights groups and activists.
