Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Tawakkol Karman, has sharply criticized the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following its recent condemnation of attacks on displaced persons’ camps and aid convoys in North Darfur, accusing the Gulf state of enabling the very crimes it now denounces.
On her official Facebook page, Tawakkol Karman asserted that the crimes committed by the UAE and the Janjaweed militias against the Sudanese people will not go unpunished, emphasizing that the steadfast Sudanese people will continue to seek justice against those responsible.
According to Arab and international media outlets, the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia launched armed assaults on displacement camps in El Fasher, located in North Darfur State, resulting in the deaths of dozens of civilians and the forced displacement of many others.
The El Fasher Resistance Coordination Committee—a local grassroots group—reported that by April 12, the number of casualties from RSF attacks on El Fasher, including those targeting the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps for internally displaced persons, had surpassed 320 dead and wounded.
