In a celebration marking the 59th anniversary of Yemen’s October 14 Revolution, organized by the Tawakkol Karman Foundation in Istanbul, the well-known singer Amal Ku’dul was honored.

The folk artist received a cash prize of $20,000 from the Tawakkol Karman Foundation for her distinctive artist contributions and efforts in the service of national causes.

During the ceremony attended by many members of the Yemeni community in Turkey, including political figures and human rights activists, the singer Amal Ku’dul performed a number of national songs on the occasion of the anniversary of the Yemeni revolution against the British colonial rule.

For her part, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, gave a speech on this occasion, stressing that all attempts of the neo-colonialists to erase the identity of Yemen and the unity of the Yemeni people will be doomed to failure.

Just as the September 26 Revolution inspires us today to resist the Imamate and confront its dynastic supremacy, the October Revolution today manifests itself as a guiding national landmark that inspires us to resist the occupation and its tools, she added.

She explained,” It is our national duty to commemorate this occasion because it is among our unforgettable days, and one of our victories that inspires us and gives us confidence in ourselves."

Whatever the circumstances or wounds, Mrs. Karman continued, the revival of national occasions remains a duty of everyone because this is part of preserving the national memory.

She also concluded that independence did not come as a result of a voluntary departure of the British colonialist, but rather as a fruit of the October Revolution and its historic achievement.
