Peace- and women’s rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman today condemned the crime committed by US drones in al-Baydah province in central Yemen where more than twenty women and children were killed,
describing it as an act of terrorism that the US administration claims to fight.
Karman said in a statement shared on social media Monday that “unmanned aircraft operations are extrajudicial killings. And when it comes to killing this number of women and children, the crime becomes twice as worse.”
“The US operation in Yemen coincided with Trump's decision to ban all Yemenis from travelling and immigrating to the US. Based on this decision, more than 25 million Yemenis are now suspected of terrorism,” she explained in the statement.
Mrs. Karman added, “This is the way how the US administration fights terrorism in Yemen and anywhere else, emphasizing that they in this way do not combat terrorism, rather create and provide it with life’s elixir.”
A.U.S. commando died and three others were wounded carrying out a deadly dawn raid on the al Qaeda militant group in southern Yemen on Sunday, in the first military operation authorized by President Donald Trump, according to Reuters.
Two more U.S. servicemen were injured when an American military aircraft was sent to evacuate the wounded commandos but came under fire and had to be "intentionally destroyed in place," the Pentagon said.
The new U.S. president called the operation a success and said intelligence gathered during the operation would help the United States fight terrorism.
