Nobel Peace laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman today met with Iceland's former President Vigdís Finnbogadóttir on the sidelines of an international conference organized at the University of Iceland by Höfði Reykjavik Peace Centre (HOFDI) on global threats and challenges facing young people.
Finnbogadóttir is the fourth President of Iceland.
She held the post from 1980 to 1996, and was the world's first democratically directly elected female president. With a presidency of exactly sixteen years, she also remains the longest-serving elected female head of state of any country to date.
