The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, is visiting Peru at the invitation from Peruvian University of César Vallejo on the occasion of its 26th anniversary. 

During the visit, the Nobel laureate will be awarded an honorary doctorate by César Vallejo for her role in defending human rights and promoting women's presence in society, according to Karman’s statement on Facebook. 

Mrs. Karman will deliver a lecture on freedoms, human rights and the role of women in peacemaking at the University of César Vallejo (UCV) in La Libertad (northwestern Peru), founded on November 12, 1991 and named after the prominent Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo.

Tawakkol Karman is the fifth Nobel Prize to arrive in Peru for the twenty-sixth anniversary of the César Vallejo University, after Shirin Ebadi (2003 Nobel Peace Prize), Leymah Gbowee ( 2001 Nobel Peace Prize), Jody Williams (1997 Nobel Peace Prize) and Rigoberta Menchú ( 1992 Nobel Peace Prize).

The UCV Executive President, Beatriz Merino, will be in charge of the presentation of the award-winning defender of women's and human rights this Friday, November 10, at the Lima Norte campus of the UCV at 4:00 in the afternoon.

Karman, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011, is one of the leading figures in the peaceful struggle for human rights and is known as the Mother of the Revolution in Yemen.
