Nobel laureate congratulates Yemen’s Al-Qadi on IWOC
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has congratulated the Yemeni activist, Yasmin Al-Qadi, on winning the US Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award (IWOC).
In a statement on her official Facebook page, Tawakkol Karman said that Yasmin Al-Qadi is an excellent nominee, pointing out that Al-Qadi is a courageous woman and deserves to be honoured because such honor is also recognition of Yemeni women in general.
The Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award (IWOC) Award recognizes women around the globe who have demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment, often at great personal risk and sacrifice.
U.S. diplomatic missions overseas nominate one woman of courage from their respective host countries. The finalists are selected and approved by senior Department officials.
