WJWC Demands Dahmani's Immediate Release in Tunisia
Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) has expressed deep concern over the Tunisian Court of Appeal's decision on September 10th to uphold the conviction of lawyer and journalist Sonia Dahmani
while reducing her prison sentence from one year to eight months.
The organization views Sonia's arrest and trial for her critical statements as a clear violation of her right to freedom of expression, protected by international laws and human rights conventions.
The WJWC strongly condemns the Tunisian authorities' repressive measures against independent voices and journalists. Such arbitrary arrests of media professionals and activists threaten press freedom in Tunisia.
Women Journalists Without Chains calls for the immediate overturning of Sonia Dahmani's sentence and her release. They also urge the international community and human rights organizations to apply pressure to ensure freedom of expression in Tunisia and to protect the rights of journalists and lawyers.
