Nobel Laureate Demands Prosecution of Committee Head for Misappropriating Funds
Human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has called for the investigation and prosecution of Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, head of the Yemeni government's Consultation and Reconciliation Committee, following reports that he seized all of the committee’s allocated funds.
Media sources report that Al-Ghaithi—who also formerly held a leadership position in the now-dissolved, UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council—authorized the withdrawal of the entire budget from the committee's bank account, leaving it with a zero balance.
In a statement on her official Facebook page, Karman emphasized that referring Al-Ghaithi for trial is critical to uphold the principle of no impunity. She stressed that this principle is more important than any political reconciliation and is foundational to achieving genuine peace and stability in Yemen.
