Nobel Laureate Karman condemns Houthi kidnapping of Yemeni writer
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has condemned the kidnapping of Yemeni writer and social media activist Mohammed Dabwan Al-Mayahi by the Houthi militia in the capital Sana'a.
Karman called for Al-Mayah's immediate release, describing the act as "criminal behavior inherent in the terrorist group."
The Houthi militia, backed by Iran, stormed Al-Mayah's home in Sana'a, confiscating his phone and computer before taking him to an unknown location. Local sources suggest the kidnapping is part of a wider campaign targeting political leaders and activists who oppose the Houthi project and have called for celebrations marking the anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.
Al-Mayahi had been a sharp critic of the militia, calling for a steadfast rejection of their sectarian project and urging resistance against them by any means possible.
Karman, a prominent figure in the Yemeni revolution, has consistently denounced the Houthi militia's human rights abuses and their efforts to silence opposition voices. Her condemnation of Al-Mayah's kidnapping highlights the ongoing struggle for freedom of expression and the dangers faced by those who dare to speak out against the Houthi regime.
