Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has made comments regarding the reported assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, in Tehran, Iran.
According to Karman, Haniyeh "was lured to Tehran and his head was presented as a gift to Israel, along with many other gifts that Iran has given and continues to give to them." Karman described this as an "undeniable truth."
Earlier today, Hamas had announced the assassination of Haniyeh in an Israeli airstrike on his residence in the Iranian capital. The group stated that the Hamas leader was killed shortly after participating in the inauguration ceremony for Iran's new president.
The circumstances surrounding Haniyeh's presence in Tehran have now been clarified. Hamas said the Hamas leader was in the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration of the country's newly elected president.
