Nobel Peace Prize-winning huma rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, has launched a scathing attack on the Houthi militia, accusing them of being directly responsible for the attempted assassination of Mohammed Shabita,
General Secretary of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate. The attack, which took place in Sana'a yesterday, resulted in Shabita's injury and the death of one of his relatives.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page, Karman labeled the Houthis as a "terrorist militia" and their actions as "cold-blooded murder." She accused the Houthis of deliberately planning and executing the attack, demonstrating their callous disregard for human life and freedom of expression.
"The Houthi militia bears full responsibility for this heinous crime," Karman declared, expressing her full solidarity with the injured journalist. She condemned the Houthis' relentless persecution of journalists and media professionals, aimed at silencing dissent and controlling the narrative.
The attack on Shabita has reignited calls for international intervention to protect journalists and uphold freedom of the press in Yemen. Karman's condemnation adds weight to these calls, urging the international community to take concrete action to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure the safety of journalists in Yemen.
