Oxford, United Kingdom – February 9, 2026 — Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman warned that the international system is undergoing a profound and structural collapse, rather than facing temporary political crises, during a lecture delivered at Oxford University titled “From the Erosion and Disintegration of the Nation-State to the Fracture of the World Order.”

The year 2025 marked a defining moment in the international political and moral trajectory of Tawakkol Karman, the Yemeni Nobel Peace Prize laureate whose voice has remained one of the most persistent and uncompromising advocates for democracy, human dignity, and justice since the Arab Spring.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman took part in the meeting of the Meta Oversight Board for Facebook and Instagram, held from December 8–10, 2025, in the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C.

On the International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman delivered a stark warning about the erosion of democracy and the escalating repression of women activists worldwide. Speaking at a webinar titled “Defending Democracy and the Rule of Law in Times of Global Instability” hosted by the EDVAW Platform, Karman described the day as “a call to action, a reminder, and a moral duty.”

Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman used her virtual address at the “Living with the Agenda: 25 Years of Women, Peace and Security and Armenia's Call for Human Security” conference in Yerevan to call for a renewed and strengthened global commitment to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.

At the Halifax Security Forum on Thursday, human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman delivered a passionate appeal for democracy, arguing that freedom is the true cornerstone of peace.

In Stockholm, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human-rights advocate Tawakkol Karman presented the 2025 International Children’s Peace Prize to Syrian activist Bana al-Abed during a landmark ceremony at the city’s historic City Hall.
