Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights advocate Tawakkol Karman has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Father Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, describing his death as a profound loss not only for Qatar but for the Arab nation, the wider region, and the international community.

In a condolence message shared on her official Facebook page, Karman said Qatar had lost an exceptional and visionary statesman whose leadership ushered in an era of unprecedented progress and transformation. She emphasized that the Arab world had been deprived of one of its most steadfast defenders and dedicated advocates.

Karman noted that Sheikh Hamad’s passing also represents a significant loss for the generation of the Arab Spring, whose aspirations he consistently supported. She recalled that he had been a source of encouragement and inspiration for advocates of freedom and democratic change, with his influence extending well beyond Qatar through his strategic vision, principled positions, and enduring commitment to the values of freedom, dignity, and justice at both regional and international levels.

On a personal note, Karman reflected that the Father Emir had been to her “a second father and an irreplaceable source of support.”

She concluded by praying that God grant Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani mercy and forgiveness, and extended heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the bereaved family, and to the Qatari people, asking God to bestow patience, strength, and solace during this time of mourning.
