Nobel laureate condemns Israeli strikes, emphasizes Yemeni-led resolution
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, has condemned Israeli airstrikes on the port of Hodeidah and other infrastructure in western Yemen.
Local media reported that the strikes, which occurred Sunday, targeted two ports and two power stations in the Hodeidah governorate, currently controlled by the Houthi militia.
Karman's statement strongly criticized the Houthi movement, referring to them as "the worst group known to history." However, she emphasized that the conflict's resolution rests with the Yemeni people. She called for Yemenis to take the lead in overthrowing Houthi rule in Sana'a and surrounding areas.
The attacks on Hodeidah, a vital port for humanitarian aid and commerce, heighten concerns about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen. The extent of damage and casualties remains unclear, pending official assessments.
